New York State regulation (effective Fall of 2016) requires that all graduate schools of education require a 3.0 GPA (undergraduate) in their admissions criteria, and use a standardized test as part of the admission process. If you are planning to matriculate into a Graduate Education Program, you will have to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or another test as indicated by the college you apply to. As of May 2018, current certified teachers or educational leaders who already hold a graduate degree are exempt from taking the standardized test. To become exempt it may be necessary to apply for a waiver through the admissions. Waivers may also be available for the 3.0 GPA requirement. Ask your admissions officer for more information about these policies.

ELT is excited to roll out our latest online seminar for school-related professionals, Disability Awareness, that offers timely and useful strategies while allowing flexibility to learn at one’s own pace.

    Disability Awareness

School-related professionals (SRP) play an important role with students with disabilities whether it is in the special education classroom, on the bus, in the cafeteria, on the playground, etc. They may work closely with one student with severe disabilities or multiple students with less severe disabilities. Therefore, it is important that all SRPs have a general understanding of The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), characteristics of disabilities, and key concepts related to the education of students with disabilities. Through this program, participants will refine their skills and knowledge by experiencing what it is like to have a disability and then applying this information as they identify strategies to improve student learning and behavior specific to the students they support.

    Other online seminars include:

    • Bully, Bullied or Bystander
    • Dealing with Difficult Behaviors
    • Our World, Our Students
    • Poverty and Its Effect on Learning
    • Supporting Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Click Here to view online seminar descriptions and refund policy.

These online seminars can be used toward fulfilling Continuing Teacher & Leader Education (CTLE) requirements as NYSUT’s Education & Learning Trust is an approved provider.
