  • Registration for Spring 2022 Courses

    With social distancing paramount at this time and in the near future, NYSUT’s Education & Learning Trust (ELT) is committed to making sure our members’ health is top priority while providing graduate programs. Our Spring course work has been approved via our college partners to continue delivery of graduate content via a remote learning environment.

    ELT's Spring 2022 remote and online courses are available for registration on Frontline Professional Growth.

    NYSUT members will receive a 40% discount off the prices listed in Frontline at the time of registration for both online and site-based courses taken for either graduate or inservice credit (3 graduate credit/45 hour courses).

  • The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has approved NYSUT ELT’s Training in the Needs of Children with Autism in a distance education format. The seminar, which fulfills the state requirements for the three hour Autism training in the needs of students with Autism, pursuant to Sections 3004(4) and (5) of the Education Law and Subpart 57-3 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, will now be available completely online.

  • Tesol FlierELT's Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) is being held July 11-14, 2016 in the Conference Center at the NYSUT Headquarters, located at 800 Troy Schenectady Road, Latham, New York. Classes are held from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. You must attend each day to receive in-service credit.

    Classes include:

    • AP® Biology
    • AP® Calculus AB
    • AP® Calculus BC
    • AP® Chemistry
    • AP® English Literature and Composition
    • AP® US History
    • AP® World History

    This year, the institutes will be offered for 30 hours inservice credit. Tuition will be $650 for early registration (on or before May 22), $725 starting on May 23. Your tuition includes course materials, continental breakfast and lunch each day. AP® Biology lab fees are $30 extra.

    Deadline for registration is June 24. No registrations can be accepted without payment or purchase order number. Please note: Districts will be billed for purchase orders upon receipt, and payment is due by the start of the institute, July 11.

    ELT reserves the right to cancel any course because of insufficient enrollment or for any other reason. Institutes with low enrollments will be canceled on July 1, and all fees refunded. You are encouraged to register early to avoid the cancellation of institutes. Cancellations must be received in writing by July 1, or the full registration fee will be charged.

  • The NYSUT Education & Learning Trust and Mercy College are partnering to make it easier for teachers to pursue New York State Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and Bilingual certification through its expanded online programs.

    These ELT/Mercy programs include:

    Bilingual Extension to a Teaching Certificate (15 credits)

    Applicants to the program are required to possess a NYS teaching certificate, and successfully complete the Bilingual Education Assessment (BEA). The Bilingual Extension certification requires training for the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) and participation in a college supervised field experience.

    NYSUT ELT Core Courses:
    EDUC 505 Teaching English as a Second Language (3 credits)
    EDUC 508 Theory and Practice of Bilingual Education (3 credits)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------
    Mercy Courses:
    EDUC 509 Linguistics and Language Development, from Birth through Adulthood (3 credits)
    EDUC 602 Native Language Arts and Social Studies in Bilingual Education (3 credits)
    EDUC 604 Mathematics and Science Bilingual Education (3 credits)

    Advanced Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) (12 credits)

    Applicants to the program are required to possess a master’s degree and NYS teaching certificate other than TESOL, and provide documentation of 12 credits in a language other than English. The NYS certification in ESOL requirements include successful completion of the Content Specialty Test in ESOL, training for the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), and participation in a 20-day clinical practice experience teaching ESL to ELLs.

    NYSUT ELT Core Course:
    EDUC 505 Teaching English as a Second Language (3 credits)

    Mercy Courses:
    EDUC 629 Modern English Structure and the Teaching of English as a Second Language (3 credits)
    EDUC 636 (Pre-requisite for EDUC 707) Methods and Materials of Teaching English as a Second Language (3 credits)
    EDUC 707 Mentoring Seminar in TESOL (3 credits)

    *After completing NYSUT core course(s) with a grade of B or above, students formally apply to Mercy College for matriculation in order to complete remaining requirements.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Students are NOT eligible to register for a Mercy sponsored course through NYSUT ELT or UFT if:

    • they have already completed 15 Mercy College credits through NYSUT ELT or UFT,
    • they are currently enrolled in a Mercy College degree or Advanced Certificate Program,
    • they are on a financial hold with Mercy College, or-they were academically dismissed by Mercy College.

  • The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has re-approved ELT's application to be a provider of Coursework or Training in the Needs of Children with Autism.

    The seminar fulfills the state requirements for the 3 hour Autism training in the needs of students with Autism pursuant to Sections 3004(4) and (5) of the Education Law and Subpart 57-3 of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.

  • Effective July 1, 2016, Professionally certified classroom teachers/educational leaders and Level III Teaching Assistants are required to complete Continuing Teacher & Leader Education (CTLE) hours during each five year registration period.

    NYSUT’s Education & Learning Trust (ELT) has been approved as a CTLE provider. Participants successfully completing courses and seminars offered by ELT will receive a certificate of completion with ELT’s sponsor identification number to be used toward CTLE hour fulfillment.

  • The Dignity Act maintains that it is the policy of the State of New York to afford all students in public schools an environment free of discrimination and harassment (Education Law 10).

    This interactive and discussion-based program examines harassment, discrimination and bullying as it relates to, but is not limited to, those acts based on a person's actual or perceived race, color, weight, national origin, gender or sex.

    Participants will engage in authentic conversations and reflections about harassment, discrimination and bullying as well as explore the impact of social constructs in their personal and professional lives.

    This training fulfills the state requirements for six clock hours of coursework or training in the Dignity Act in accordance with Article 2 Sections 10-18 of the Education Law.
