Find calm in the classroom

And earn CTLE hours

Let’s face it ─ it’s been a tough couple of years in our schools, and educators everywhere could use a little peace in their classrooms. NYSUT’s Education & Learning Trust offers educators courses to re-energize their professional practice and discover new strategies for reaching their students.

Here, we have identified four courses designed to help teachers reduce stress, restore calm and adopt mindful habits. Courses are offered virtually, and each is worth five Continuing Teacher and Leader Education hours. All courses are discounted for NYSUT members.

Educators can also earn CTLE hours at six regional learning centers. These classes are organized by local union leaders and offered free of charge to NYSUT members.

Finish your master’s degree – NYSUT can help

Finish your master’s degree ─ NYSUT can help

Ready to earn your Master of Education Degree, but don't know where to start?

NYSUT's Education & Learning Trust, in partnership with SUNY Empire State College, offers members a path to earn up to nine Empire State College graduate credits toward Empire State College's 30-credit online Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction. Once you complete your nine credits, you can matriculate into Empire State College using our partnership benefit program.

To begin your degree, you can choose from 43 different ELT courses. Topics include curriculum design, instructional planning and differentiated teaching.

MAGIC ─ Meaningful Activities to Generate Interesting Curriculum is one of the most popular courses in the Empire State College program. Based on the idea that the best learning happens when students’ brains are producing dopamine, the class introduces lots of engaging activities that will keep young minds activated, engaged and primed to transfer new information into their long-term memory, said Randi Azar, ELT instructor and member of the Lawrence Teachers Association. “When you do these kinds of activities, it makes the learning memorable.”

Plus, they’re fun, and fortunately for teachers, Azar instills that same spirit of fun in her course, where participants are invited to write poems, songs, compete in games and build community.
