Learn to encourage students to be leaders

And earn CTLE hours

Teaching student leadership requires planning and preparation, but with the right tools and structure, educators can create classrooms brimming with leaders and influencers. Here are four classes designed to prepare students to take charge inside the classroom and out. The online seminars are offered asynchronously and each is worth five CTLE hours. The classes are offered remotely.

All seminars are discounted for NYSUT members.

Educators can also earn CTLE hours at six regional learning centers. These classes are organized by local union leaders and offered free of charge to NYSUT members.

Earn an advanced certification in literacy – NYSUT can help

Literacy is about more than just teaching kids to read; it is about building a strong foundation that enables students to make sense of the world around them and effectively communicate with others.

The 15-credit Advanced Certificate in Teaching Literacy, Birth–Grade 6 will permit qualified applicants, who have a master’s degree and hold a teaching certificate in another teaching area, to earn initial or professional certification in Teaching Literacy, Birth–Grade 6. Through a unique partnership between NYSUT and Mercy College, union members can obtain this certificate by completing five courses, taking a content test, developing an e-portfolio, and finishing 50 hours of practical experience.
